Job Purpose: The Regional Logistics Manager provides functional guidance to employees regarding the planning and support of operations. The Manager is a staff planning entity that provides the guidance to ensure the operation is operated in compliance with all applicable laws, government regulations and the company Policies and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (may include but are not limited to)
- Regional Logistics Managers provide project support and communication planning (as needed)
- Provides transportation guidance to all Logistics managers in operations managing workflow/task execution and the integration of all functions to their respective site.
- Implements and ensures compliance to company Logistics Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
Ensures all training and adherence to these policies and/or reports any non-conformances or correction
- Ensures and properly manages all documentation and reports, Ensure all are processed in a timely manner for reporting or billing
- Ensures dedicated carrier selection for optimal efficiency, proper carrier communication and ensuring timely communication to customers
- Point of contact for Carriers and proactively follows up regularly to build relationships
- Regular reviews and meetings with accounting department to discuss cost reporting concerns
it or incoming emails from customers ensuring timely responses from local teams
- Documentation of comments, communication and follow-up via email and telephone to ensure the carrier performance meets the customer expectations
- Monitors and records carrier performance and failures. Will work closely with all operations managers and General Managers to continually improve processes, carrier selection, and services.
- Negotiate terms and rates for shippers and carriers required to move cargo in the absence of carrier contracts or system
- Must be able to exercise discretion and good judgment, with an ability to understand the effect of decisions overall in the company
- Will evaluate and measure employee performance and help develop their skills to meet expectations
- Troubleshoot issues that may arise during shipment
- Will provide optimum customer service and lead by example in all aspects of job responsibilities
- Will create a positive environment for employees and co-workers and help maintain morale
- Will participate in meetings and will be expected to work weekends, holidays, long hours when needed. Holiday needs, customer needs are to be managed to not impact daily customer needs
- Step in when necessary in the absence of key individuals in the department to keep operations running.
- On call 24/7 for emergencies, staffing concerns, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Education and/or Experience:
- Degree in related field or must have 10+ years of equivalent experience in transportation or logistics, which includes customer processing, route delivery procedures and basic security and operational procedures, transportation, logistics, Brokerage and or 3PL environments
- Must have 2+ years experience in a manager/supervisor or lead position in Traffic or related field
- Understanding of DOT rules and regulations, vehicle weight capacity and load spec s, etc.
- Ability to work graveyard hours, weekends, holidays and OT- flexibility of schedule is a must!
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, with experience in coaching, counseling and conflict resolution.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to manage stress in self and others within a fast-paced environment, adapting readily to change.
Computer System Skills:
- Requires proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and related applications.
- Have (TMS) Transportation Management Systems software knowledge related to load processing, quote request, shipment tracking, etc.
- Preferred experience with Truckmate, PC Miler, Fleetmatics, RoadNet.
- Must have strong analytical skills, including the ability to extract, compile and analyze data.
Reasoning Ability:
- Must be able to interact with all levels of upper management and have excellent written and verbal communication skills, bilingual is a plus. Must be able to manage and travel as needed to support areas of responsibility as needed or directed. Must be able to lead a diverse workforce.
